American River Junior Team Tennis

The Sacramento Community Tennis Association (SCTA) sponsored a league for 52 new tennis players that just completed October 26th. The league was called the American River Junior Team Tennis League and was held at Gold River Racquet Club. This tennis league was for kid’s ages 8 to 14 who wanted to learn how to play tennis. The league utilized a new format for learning to play called Quick Start. With shorter courts and large foam balls, the game is made easier to learn and play.

The league was run by Commissioner Ted Burchett. The formation and operation of this league was Ted’s Eagle Scout project. Assistance for the project came from Sue Davis, USTA Community Coordinator, Tennis Professionals from Gold River Racquet Club and Boy Scouts and their parents from Troop 380. It is amazing how much improvement we saw in these kids in just a few short weeks. SCTA will be forming a new league in the Spring of 2009. Watch for more information.
